Your coach, in your corner

Hi, I’m Tim Gears.

Founder, owner & lead coach · Pillars Nutrition

Good coaching starts with understanding the person in front of you. I bring my experience of work, leadership, training and everyday life into helping you find a way forward that feels like yours.

My career has taken me through demanding engineering and advanced manufacturing environments, managing large teams and supporting people with very different needs. I know how responsibility, travel and a busy working life can make looking after yourself feel like another job.

I’ve also been a proud co-owner of Active8 Gym in Oswestry for over seven years. Helping people feel welcome, grow in confidence and discover what they’re capable of is a part of that work I love.

Pillars began as an idea over 20 years ago, originally called Pillars for Life. That idea has grown into Pillars Nutrition: support that starts with food and reaches into movement, habits and the life you want to lead.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before we meet. Bring your questions, your goals and whatever feels difficult right now. We’ll start there, together.

Education that shapes my coaching

Proudly qualified through MNU.
Still learning. Still growing.

Qualifying through Mac-Nutrition Uni (MNU) helped shape who I am as a coach and how I understand nutrition. It is a foundation I’m deeply proud of.

I was part of their first-ever mentorship programme, continuing to learn from Martin MacDonald and his team. I owe so much to what they have created, and to the learning and support they continue to offer.

For me, continuing to learn is part of caring for the people I coach—bringing that understanding into practical conversations about food, habits and everyday life.

Growing the Pillars team

Meet Kelly. Meet Gary.

Kelly · from client to coach

Kelly has been part of Pillars from the beginning. She is completing her Level 5 Diploma in Nutrition through Mac-Nutrition University (MNU), and preparing to welcome her own clients under the Pillars banner. You can already find Move with Kelly in the Pillars app.

Her coaching start date will follow once her qualification and arrangements are confirmed.

Gary · looking ahead to mountain days

Kelly’s husband, Gary, is working towards his Mountain Leader qualification. We’re looking forward to developing guided hikes and mountain days once he is qualified—another way to enjoy moving, get outside and share experiences.

These are future plans, with details to follow when they’re ready.

The life behind Pillars

A coach. A runner.
A person beside you.

Tim Gears at the Ultra Wales start

Movement is part of my life.

I’m an ultra runner. Running, training and being outdoors mean a great deal to me—but your goals don’t need to look like mine. We start with what matters to you.

The people beside me.

My wife, Jacqui, is a keen runner who has competed at a high level herself. Her support means so much to me. Shared experiences and encouragement are a big part of my life.

Tim with his dog Max

Fresh air. My boy Max.

Dogs have a special place in my life. Time outdoors with Max is one of the things I value most—movement, company and time together.

Part of Active8

A gym. A community.
A place to grow.

I’ve been a proud co-owner of Active8 Gym in Oswestry for over seven years. The gym has been running for over 10 years, and the community we’ve built means a great deal to me. You can also explore our local connections to meet more of the people and businesses around Pillars.

If you’re new to training, or walking into a gym feels daunting, I want you to feel welcome. Through Pillars, we can take those first steps together and build your confidence at a pace that feels right for you.

Pillars HQ. A private place to talk.

Pillars has a private office, separate from the gym, for first meetings, meet-and-greets and client check-ins. You can talk things through in privacy, away from the gym floor. There’s no need to walk through the gym to reach us.

You don’t need a gym membership to meet me at Pillars HQ. Coaching can also take place online or outdoors. Gym membership is optional and paid separately.
